Delta Sigma Theta 57th National Convention
Seven days | 36,000 attendees | Walter E. Washington Convention Center
A major national organization hosting its flagship seven-day leadership convention in Washington, DC needed to solve a problem that most photo and video vendors are not equipped to handle: how do you create consistent, high-impact engagement across multiple days, multiple spaces, and 36,000 attendees while also driving meaningful social visibility?
A single activation would not work. The event required a system.
The Phototique was brought in to design and deploy a multi-location branded photo and video strategy that would complement the event's scale, reflect its prestige, and give every attendee a reason to engage, share, and return.
Rather than a single installation, we built a multi-layered experience that lived throughout the event, designed to move with the energy of the programming rather than compete with it.
Seven activation zones across six days
Each zone was designed around a distinct moment in the convention program:
All content was delivered instantly via QR code, SMS, AirDrop, and a custom branded gallery, making it easy for attendees to download, share, and revisit their favorite moments.
Post-event, the organization received:
During high-impact events including the opening celebration The Phototiquedeployed four roaming photo stations, capturing spontaneous moments and broadcasting them across large-format screens throughout the venue. Guests saw themselves on display in real time, amplifying crowd excitement and driving instant social sharing using event-specific hashtags.
To drive deeper interaction and encourage full participation, we created a custom scavenger huntthat guided attendees to each photo activation zone. Guests collected digital stamps at every booth, unlocking surprise rewards and exclusive content upon completion.
This gamified approach drove traffic across all booth locations, boosted repeat engagement, and added an element of discovery to the photo experience.
To include virtual attendees in the excitement, we launched a dedicated online lphoto booth featuring video confessional, branded frames, themed overlays, and social sharing functionality. It allowed digital guests to participate in the storytelling from anywhere in the world.

The event maintained energy, visibility, and interaction from the first day to the last. The experience did not end when the convention did. It extended into the organization’s marketing, PR, and internal storytelling for months afterward.

At this scale, photo and video are not additions to the program. They are part of how the event functions. They shape guest movement, sustain energy across spaces, drive brand visibility, and extend post-event reach.
When designed with intention, they become a core layer of the experience itself.
The Phototique designs editorial, multi-layered photo and video experiences for conventions, conferences, galas, and brand events across Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia.
